Meituan, Douyin, Xiaohongshu, Amap, search, AI Q&A: dental clinics have more and more channels for winning patients, but budgets are limited. Which to do first, which later and how to combine them is a question owners share. There is no standard template, but there is a clear framework for deciding: look at each channel's type of traffic, at the clinic's stage and patients, and at its internal capacity to handle what comes in. This article goes through the main channels one by one to help clinics set their own channel priorities.
First, sort the channels: transaction, patient education and search
The online channels a dental clinic can use fall into three types by the nature of their traffic, and the type decides each channel's role in the clinic's patient acquisition.
Transaction channels: Meituan, Dianping, Douyin group-buying and Amap group-buying. Users arrive with a clear need: they search for a treatment, compare prices, read reviews, place an order and visit. The intent is clear and the conversion path short, making these the foundation of dental patient acquisition. Meituan in particular is where patients search for "dental implants" or "dentist nearby", and it is the main arena no clinic, new or established, can be absent from.
Patient-education channels: Xiaohongshu, Douyin short videos and WeChat Channels. Users are not there to buy; they are won over while browsing content. They see a note about an orthodontic case or an explanatory video about implants, their interest is sparked, and they gradually move towards finding out more and making an enquiry. The intent is weak but the influence is deep. These channels suit building awareness for treatments with long decision cycles and high fees, and long-term brand reputation building.
Search channels: Baidu search, map search and the fast-rising AI Q&A (Doubao and others). Users actively search "which dental clinic is good in [city]" or ask AI "a reliable clinic nearby for dental implants". The intent is clear and competition is less intense than in traditional search; this is the new source of additional patients that has emerged in the past two years.
The division of roles: transaction channels handle "today's orders", patient-education channels handle "tomorrow's awareness" and search channels handle "the ability to be found". A healthy acquisition structure has a presence in all three, but the order and emphasis depend on the clinic's own situation.
Four dimensions for setting your priorities
No channel is good or bad in itself; fit is what matters. From Sanqi Internet's experience serving more than 1,000 dental clinics, there are four dimensions for deciding channel priorities.
- Stage. In the cold-start period of a new clinic, cash-flow pressure is high, so go deep on transaction channels first. Meituan is the first choice: results come relatively quickly and the path is mature. For a growing clinic whose transaction base is stable, add patient-education channels to widen awareness, choosing Douyin or Xiaohongshu according to the patients. Mature clinics and multi-store chains cover all three types and move into fine-grained operations and deeper brand work; new entry points such as AI search are worth getting into early.
- Patients. For clinics with many young patients and mainly orthodontic and whitening treatments, Douyin and Xiaohongshu can be given more weight; that is where young users do their research. For clinics focused on families and paediatric dentistry, Meituan and WeChat Channels fit better, because parents' searching for group-buying offers and sharing of content are concentrated there. For clinics whose patients are mainly middle-aged and older people seeking implants, search and maps carry more weight, as these match their habit of actively looking things up.
- Treatment. Low-decision treatments such as teeth cleaning and fillings convert directly on transaction channels. For high-decision treatments such as implants and orthodontics, the awareness-building value of patient-education channels is high: patients may spend six months finding out before they decide, and content keeps influencing them during those six months.
- Capacity to handle patients. However well chosen the channel, it is wasted if the clinic cannot handle what comes in. Clinics that are slow to answer enquiries should not rush to scale up advertising; clinics with weak content production should test patient-education channels in small steps. Channel strategy should advance in step with internal capacity.
The main channels one by one
- Meituan / Dianping: the foundation of dental patient acquisition, with clear search intent and a short conversion path. The operational focus is store groundwork, package structure, and rating and reputation. Competition is already intense, so crude operations will not produce results; fine-grained operations are essential.
- Douyin group-buying: a fast-growing mix of transaction and patient education. Short-video content brings traffic, and the POI (store location page) and group-buying offers handle conversion. It demands content capability, but once it takes off it can grow explosively. The dental medical category has entry requirements such as whitelisting approval, and compliance must be taken seriously.
- Xiaohongshu: the typical patient-education channel and where decisions are shaped for orthodontics, aesthetic dentistry and paediatric dentistry. Results are slow, but content has a long shelf life: a note stays in search results for a long time and keeps generating enquiries. It suits brand-conscious clinics playing the long game.
- Amap: an underrated search entry point. "Nearby" searches in navigation are precise in intent and low in competition, and the cost of refreshing and fine-tuning a listing is relatively low. It is especially good for community clinics that depend heavily on location.
- Search and AI Q&A: competition in traditional search is fierce and the return on investment is falling. AI Q&A is the new variable: when a patient asks Doubao "which clinic in [district] is good for dental implants", clinics that AI recommends receive highly targeted enquiries. This is why Sanqi Internet has made GEO (AI search optimisation) a core service: in the window period of a new entry point, those who get in first benefit first.
Combination strategy: not doing everything, but doing it in the right order
- Clinics going deep on a single channel commonly use "Meituan as the main channel plus Amap as a supplement", covering the foundation of search-driven transactions.
- Clinics starting on multiple channels should run two wheels, "transaction plus patient education": Meituan handles conversion and Douyin or Xiaohongshu builds awareness, with content reused across channels to lower costs.
- Mature clinics cover all three types and add AI search on top. With stable platform traffic, a deep stock of content assets and an early presence in AI recommendations, the three links in the patient's decision chain — seeing the clinic, verifying it and booking — are complete.
The principle for trade-offs on a limited budget: protect the foundation of transaction channels first, then talk about expansion. Cutting the foundation to chase new channels puts things the wrong way round.

Frequently asked questions
Our budget only covers one channel. Which should we choose?
For the great majority of clinics, the answer is Meituan. Transaction intent is concentrated there, the path is mature and the time to results is manageable. Get the store, packages and reputation on Meituan solid, and you have your foundation. Amap can be added alongside as a low-cost supplement.
Do we have to do Douyin?
It depends on your patients and content capability. For clinics with mainly young patients, Douyin is valuable; for those with mainly middle-aged and older patients, it can be a lower priority. If the clinic cannot produce content, solve that first; otherwise the effort will go nowhere.
What is AI search optimisation (GEO), and is it too early to start?
GEO is a service that helps a clinic be recommended accurately in AI Q&A (such as Doubao): the brand information, dentist credentials and treatment reputation are turned into structured content AI can trust and placed in the sources AI cites. The timing is right: few clinics have started yet, and those who start early take their place first. Sanqi Internet's GEO service is offered in two models: brand information calibration and optimisation engagements.
Do channels conflict with each other?
They can if operated badly. If package prices are not coordinated across platforms, patients who compare prices start to doubt the clinic. If information is inconsistent — one platform says the clinic specialises in implants while another does not even list all its treatments — patients are lost when they check. Multi-channel work needs unified management of pricing and information, which is one reason many clinics choose an operations agency to coordinate it.
Should we try it ourselves first or go straight to an agency?
Clinics on a tight budget can start the basic Meituan work themselves and decide once they understand the logic. Clinics that are sensitive to time cost and want volume quickly can go straight to a dental-focused operations agency and skip the trial-and-error period. Sanqi Internet's models range from fine-grained single-platform operations to customised all-channel work, matched to the clinic's stage.
How is multi-channel operations charged?
Quotations combine channels and the number of stores, and multi-channel, multi-store work usually comes with a combination discount. Service content, delivery standards and fee structure are set out in writing before signing. We suggest starting with a single channel to build trust and expanding step by step based on the data. A clinic in Zhuhai did exactly this: it started with Meituan alone and, once that produced results, added Douyin on its own initiative.
